DAY 2 /
MADRID
You will be met on arrival at Madrid Airport by your
tour manager and
taken to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at
leisure to get
acquainted with the city and its residents appreciation
for living. A
welcome dinner at your hotel tonight sets the tone for
the wonders to
come.
DAY 3 /
MADRID
This morning you will begin with a visit to the palatial
Prado Museum,
where you could spend days admiring the paintings. You
will drive along
the Grand Via through the Opera District, Plaza de
Colon, and view the
Royal Palace. You continue to pass through Puerto del
Sol Plaza- The
"Gate of the Sun,” and Plaza España- with its
monument to
Cervantes.
DAY 4 /
MADRID
/ SEGOVIA
/ AVILA / SALAMANCA
Today cross the rugged Sierra de Guadarrama to Segovia,
famous for
its Alcazar and the 2000-year-old Roman Aqueduct. You
will continue
to the walled and turreted city of Avila, where St.
Theresa founded
the order of the Carmelites. You will then begin your
journey to
Salamanca, originally a fortified Roman camp, for an
orientation tour
and a visit
to the Baroque Plaza Mayor, the former site of
bullfights.
DAY 5 /
SALAMANCA / FATIMA / LISBON
This morning, you will cross the border to Portugal.
Visit Fatima,
site of the famous religious miracle. Enjoy free time to
explore the
Basilica where thousands of people make a pilgrimage
annually. Continue
south to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
DAY 6 /
LISBON
Your full day tour of Lisbon will allow you to discover
the many
historical sites in this legendary city. Visit the Tower
of Belem and
the Jeronimos Monastery, a marvel of stone lacework.
Explore the
typical streets and drive along the riverside to admire
Black House
Square. Not to be missed are the medieval quarters of
Alfama, the
oldest and most picturesque quarter of the city, as well
as the
Cathedral and St. George's Castle.
DAY 7 /
LISBON
/ SEVILLE
This morning, you will return to Spain via the Andalucia
region whose
spectacular scenary ranges from mountains to plains.
This afternoon,
you will arrive in Seville, birthplace and inspiration
to many writers,
painters and artists.
DAY 8 /
SEVILLE
Your tour of Seville begins with the Moorish
architecture of the
Giralda Tower and a visit to the Cathedral, the world's
largest Gothic
monument. Discover the Plaza de Espana, passing Maria
Luisa Park, and
explore the
narrow streets and the many plazas of the Santa Cruz
Quarter. You will
have some free time to explore on your own or to do some
shopping. This
evening,
enjoy a typical Flamenco Show.
DAY 9/
SEVILLE
/ CORDOBA
/ COSTA DEL SOL
Depart Seville this morning and enjoy your short drive
to Cordoba,
founded by the Romans. You will have an afternoon
sightseeing tour that
will include a visit to its famous Mezquita (mosque) one
of the finest
ever built. You will find gleaming pillars of precious
marble, jasper,
and onyx that then raise overhead into arches,
characteristic of
Moorish
architecture. Also visit the Cathedral, the medieval
synagogue, and
the Jewish Quarter.
DAY 10/
COSTA
DEL SOL
Enjoy the day at leisure or take an optional excursion
to Morocco.
This tour includes a drive to Algeciras, cross the
Strait of Gibraltar
to Ceuta, and then continues to Tangier for a tour of
the colorful
Grand Socco market. In the medina, view the Casbah and
the
Sultan¹s Palace. Return in the evening to the Costa
del Sol.
DAY 11 /
COSTA
DEL SOL / RONDA / COSTA DEL SOL
Today you will visit the city of Ronda, one of the last
Moorish
bastions. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this town of
ancient palaces
and noble mansions as well as the famous bullring.

DAY 12 /
COSTA
DEL SOL / GRANADA
This morning, drive to Granada, a city of lush greenery,
beautiful
Moorish buildings, and a view of the snow capped Sierra
Nevada on the
horizon. Your tour of the city includes the famous
Alhambra founded
in the 13th-century and originally comprised of houses,
schools, baths,
barracks, and gardens surrounded by seemingly
impenetrable walls. You
will also view the Old Quarter, and stroll through the
Water Gardens
of the Generalife.
DAY 13 /
GRANADA /
CONSUEGRA / TOLEDO / MADRID
Begin this morning with a drive north through the region
of La Mancha,
legendary home of Don Quixote. You will have a stop in
Consuegra for a
panoramic view of its famous windmill. You will then
continue to
Toledo, once the spiritual and intellectual center of
Spain. Your
afternoon tour
will include a visit to the Cathedral, the Church of
Santo Tomé,
and
the Synagogue of Santa Maria La Blanca. In the evening,
depart for
Madrid
for a farewell dinner to end the day on a perfect note.
DAY 14 /
RETURN
Bid farewell to Spain and Portugal today, as you depart
for home,
bringing with you many fond memories of your travels on
this Iberian
Holiday.
